5 places to visit on maternity leave - local businesses in Glasgow Southside

This idea is entirely inspired by my friend Jen. I was on the final stretch of my pregnancy, a few weeks into my maternity leave, a week past my due date (total myth btw - one I tackle in my Hypnobirthing course!) and starting to go a bit stir crazy.

So, like the awesome pal she is, she started to send me daily messages with local gems to visit, to keep me busy. Somewhere local, cute and just for pre-baby me. So here are my top picks of local Glasgow Southside businesses to wile away the hours and enjoy on your maternity leave.

1. Café Strange Brew – 1082 Pollokshaws Rd

A firm Glasgow Southside staple. Quirky, friendly and bloomin’ delicious. You might even spot a celeb. Get the Turkish eggs – you won’t regret it.

2. Aume – 707 Pollokshaws Rd

This homeware boutique is my spirit animal. Gorgeous trinkets that would make the perfect baby shower gift for you, your pregnant pal or push present! 😉

3. Glasgow Plany Mama – 617 Pollokshaws Rd

Filling your home with gorgeous greenery is a great way to create the safe and relaxing calm space that we talk about during Hypnobirthing classes. As if you needed an excuse? This shop is a must for house plant lovers like myself!

4.  Grain & Grind  - 50 Battlefield Rd

Ok, so the multiple caffeine hits might need to wait until your baby is actually here but that shouldn’t stop you and bump grabbing a delicious treat and some Grade A people watching.

5. Paper Plane – 12 Skirving St

The loveliest little shop, crammed full of gorgeousness. I always find some really unique gifts hiding in here. Treat yourself! Side note – the sisters who own this store are just wonderful.

Hitting up some of your favourite spots that fill you with happiness is a great way to get the oxytocin flowing (the hormone you need to get labour started and keep it going). Plus, you deserve some me time.

I ❤️ Glasgow.
